Disclaimer: this is not a review of the entire movie, merely a dissection of the song “A Million Dreams”.
I watched The Greatest Showman last weekend: while the plot was not impressive, the songs were.

I’ve never held a job before.
My first job is an office job, where I’m an administrative assistant doing whatever my in-charge tells me to.
Surprisingly, it’s even more tiring than I thought. Once I get home, I spend only around three hours being awake before I crash, wake up and go to work again.
A poem written with Hua Chenyu in mind, after watching his music video “I Don’t Care”, also known as “我不管” (available below). 😉
Maybe I’ll also get that feeling while doing something I love, one day.
There are days I question myself what it means to be a writer. Alexander Hamilton is well-known for being one of the founding fathers of America (and now, for the musical), but I would say that he is who I would aspire to be in another universe.
I used to write on Write the World (lovely, supportive site for students aged 13 to 18) before I was too old for that platform (link to my profile there here). That’s a chapter ending, but the next continues here on this blog.
In any case, here are some samples of what I posted there:
Begin Again
Life has no real beginning,
it’s a story with many starts
Friendship is a lifelong
puzzle, family
a language, love an art
Each leaves footprints
and perhaps a few of them cut
But don’t be afraid, don’t
fear scabs and blood —
here’s to learning again, dearest
patchwork-mended heart
Modern Angels
An angel would laugh
unselfconsciously; kiss
your cheek with the warmest of smiles.
An angel would swoop in, sweep you
into an embrace high off your feet.
That angel would be insofar real.
These angels will not be there
but here, here pulling at your heart
gently, closer to their ear.
Some beginnings have rationales. I debated long about this, and here I am.
The rationale behind the blog:
To record my thoughts before I turn nineteen, and more. I felt like I didn’t really experience eighteen, in part due to the A-levels taking over my life. It’s time to over-analyse what I think I know.
It doesn’t hurt that this platform doubles as a writing and photography portfolio. Heheh.
The rationale behind the title:
I love sunrises, and I love the word “universe”. Both are unquantifiable moments or things, just like our thoughts – how big/extensive/heavy/bright are they, exactly?
There’s another story, too. It’s a literal translation of the name 晨宇, from 华晨宇 (hua chen yu), also known by his stage name 花花 (hua hua). I was inspired by his drive to keep working at his dream. Not everyone hits where they want to be by 27, but those who do inspire those yet to reach. It’s also comforting that he’s an Aquarius, too (7 Feb). This slight connection, however inconsequential it may seem, makes me feel a little less alone in the pursuit of my endeavours.
